Well, it depends what you mean by traditional. No method is rally traditional, as faming practices change constantly over time. Most recently, we have seen systems of agriculture change from extensive pre-industrial to intensive industrial agriculture. In effect, management practices have gone from low input low output to high input high output. Pre-industrial agriculture is characterised by practices such as crop rotation, re-use of manure, extensive livestock systems, and small farm sizes. Industrial agriculture is characterised by high inputs of fertiliser, herbicides and pesticides, monocropping, intensive livestock systems, and large farm size. More recently, we have seen the emergence of what we could possibly label as `post industrial agriculture`, although don`t quote me on this. This includes alternative methods such as `natural farming`, `permaculture`, and òrganic farming`. Look these up on wikipedia.org. Permaculture, which is quite a large movement, is a design system. It aims to create a diverse and stable system where the parts of said system are mutually benenficial to each other. Like I said, look it up.
