I think the one basic issue is the ability of modern agriculture to keep feeding the population without self destruction by unsound practices. All other issues seem to fall under that generalized premise. There are a lot of people to feed in the world and it is more complicated than the tomato plant in your back yard garden. We now have a new sheriff in town, and we look to that, the bio tech industry, to help with some solutions in addition to what we already have to fall back on.

The survival of smaller independent farms. Health insurance for farmers is a big issue right now and this year is the year of the farm bill.

More than production, it is marketing the products" is the problem in farming. Farmers are not organized in most of the countries, hence agents kill them. Agents earn more than farmers just by forwarding farmer's products to other agents!

I SEE YOUR QUESTION QUITE DIFFERENTLY... #1 WOULD BE AGRIBUSINESS VS THE FAMILY FARM, WHY SHOULD A LARGE FOR PROFIT BUSINESS GET DIFFERENT TAX INCENTIVES AND TAX CREDITS , JUST BECAUSE THEY INCORPORATE? #2 THE DIRECT INVOLVEMENT IN THE GOVERNMENT AS TO WHO THE CROP/PRODUCT CAN BE SOLD AND #3 IS THE AGRICULUAL SUBSIDIRES PAID FOR THE NON-PRODUCTION OF CROPS, ie LAND SETASIDES AND COTTON/CORN / WHEAT SUBSIDIES. i THINK GOVERNMENT SHOULD GET OUT OF FARMING ALL TOGETHER!!!
